Organic farming limits the use of artificial chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The use of antibiotics for animals is minimal and animals have more space to move around thus they should live in generally higher standards. Organic food is certified by organisations such as the UK Soil Association. To help navigate the ‘green label’ jungle Defra produced a useful guide. Many organic farms offer home-delivery of organic food boxes. To find one that is close to you or meets your needs simply google for organic boxes in Hertfordshire.
Is organic better?
Taste: well, it is a matter of preference, personal choice and to same extent a personal moral stance. Some free-range and grass-fed animals, although not organically certified, taste as good as certified produce.
Environment: organic farming is less harmful. No polluting chemicals are used and therefore cannot penetrate into the ground. Healthy ground encourages wider variety of species to flourish and it has smaller environmental impact in terms of carbon dioxide (to use the proper jargon organic farming has smaller carbon footprint).
